Mental Health Genomic
Mental health is deeply personal—and genetics can play an important role. This panel highlights how genetic differences may affect mood regulation, stress resilience, and response to common mental health medications. Share your results with your provider to help inform a more personalized plan. Results are delivered in the Boomerang Kits App.
This panel analyzes genetic variants affecting serotonin regulation (SLC6A4, HTR2A), dopamine and norepinephrine metabolism (COMT, MAOA), and psychiatric medication metabolism (CYP2D6, CYP2C19) across antidepressants, anxiolytics, and mood stabilizers.
The 2023 CPIC guideline recommends CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 genotyping before prescribing citalopram, escitalopram, sertraline, paroxetine, and venlafaxine — among the most commonly prescribed psychiatric drugs. SLC6A4 variants affect SSRI efficacy. HTR2A influences response to antidepressants and antipsychotics.
Mental health is deeply personal — and your genes play a major role. The Mental Health Genomic panel helps uncover how genetic differences impact mood regulation, stress resilience, and medication response. With this insight, you and your clinician can pursue targeted, evidence-based approaches for better balance and emotional well-being.

Clinician-ready report
- You are starting or considering antidepressants, anxiolytics, or mood stabilizers and want to know how your genes will affect your response (CPIC Guidelines 2023 — CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 genotyping is recommended before prescribing citalopram, escitalopram, sertraline, paroxetine, and venlafaxine.)
- You have tried multiple psychiatric medications without finding one that works well or without side effects (Relling MV & Evans WE, Nature 2015 — CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 phenotype explains a large proportion of antidepressant non-response and adverse drug events.)
- You experience anxiety, depression, or mood instability and want to understand the genetic factors involved (Lesch KP et al., Science 1996 — SLC6A4 (5-HTTLPR) variants are associated with anxiety-related traits and differential SSRI response.)
- Your provider has recommended pharmacogenomic testing before prescribing or adjusting psychiatric medication (CPIC — pre-emptive PGx testing for psychiatric medications is a Tier 1 clinical recommendation with demonstrated outcomes benefit.)
- You have a family history of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or other mood conditions (Sullivan PF et al., Nat Rev Genet 2012 — heritability of major depression is ~37%; bipolar disorder ~85%; family history is a primary risk factor.)
- You want to proactively share genetic medication response data with your psychiatrist or therapist (Dunnenberger HM et al., Annu Rev Pharmacol Toxicol 2015 — clinician-integrated PGx data reduces psychiatric ADEs and improves medication matching.)
